Zoe Saldaña burst into tears after she won her first-ever Golden Globe award.
On Sunday night, January 5, the seasoned actress attended the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. Saldaña was nominated for Best Supporting Female Actor – Motion Picture for her role in Emilia Pérez. Her co-star Selena Gomez, Wicked star Ariana Grande, Felicity Jones, Margaret Qualley, and Isabella Rossellin were also nominated. As soon as she heard her name, Saldaña immediately began bawling and hugged her mother. Selena Gomez jumped for joy as Saldaña walked to the podium to accept her award.
She tried to keep it together as she received her award from Moana 2 stars Swayne "The Rock" Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho. Once she approached the mic, Saldaña clutched the trophy with pride and immediately became overwhelmed with shock, joy and gratitude. At one point, she started to sob in between portions of her emotional speech.
"My heart is full of gratitude," she told the crowd. "Thank you so much to the Golden Globes for celebrating our film and honoring the women of Emilia Pérez. Thank you so much. Oh, my god!"
This is Zoe Saldaña’s first-ever Golden Globe nomination. Her victory came after Emilia Pérez received 10 other nominations including Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Original Song and more. The Netflix film also won the award for Best Motion Picture- Non-English Language.
