A doubleheader of NFL action is scheduled for Christmas, which should keep the holiday spirit flowing like egg nog throughout the day.
There have been 30 NFL games played on Christmas, including two each in 2004, ‘06, ‘16, ‘17, and ‘21. This year will mark the fifth consecutive season with games played on the holiday. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs will kick off the action at 1 p.m. ET.
The Chiefs come into Week 17, positioned as the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The defending Super Bowl champions will be in for a battle against the Steelers. At kickoff, many families nationwide will be unwrapping their gifts, and the excitement should continue as this matchup promises to be entertaining.
Despite their terrific record, the Chiefs have had a tumultuous season compared to what we typically see from them since Patrick Mahomes was drafted. The KC offense has struggled to score, but its defense remains a strength. Conversely, the Steelers are battling for space in the AFC playoff picture and appear poised for a deep playoff run behind a reinvigorated offense with Russell Wilson at the helm.

The Steelers and Chiefs are set to square off at 1:00 p.m. ET on Christmas.
Only viewers in local markets can catch the game on TV, as the game is going to be live streamed on Netflix.
Netflix will stream both games in the doubleheader live on Christmas.
NFL fans in the United States outside of the competing teams’ markets will need to sign into their Netflix account – or subscribe to the streaming service – to watch. Both matchups will be available with any Netflix plan.
The NFL will also stream the games on its premium subscription service, NFL+, on mobile devices.
Kansas City is 14-1 on top of the AFC entering Wednesday’s matchup. The Chiefs will clinch the AFC’s No. 1 seed (first-round bye and home-field advantage) with a win or a Bills loss over the final two weeks. Meanwhile, the Steelers have dropped to 10-5 after their second straight loss. Pittsburgh is holding onto the AFC North title by a thread and will look to hold off the Ravens in arguably the toughest division in the NFL in 2024. Pittsburgh’s backs are against the wall, and they will play with desperation as they aim to hold onto the AFC North division.

The Steelers lead the all-time series against the Chiefs with a 23-14 record. Most recently, these teams met in the playoffs during the 2021 postseason, where the Chiefs dominated their way to a 42-21 win at home in the wild-card round. Pittsburgh has surprised this season, and Mike Tomlin has led them to an 18th consecutive season at .500 or better.
Kansas City is attempting to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls. With one more win over their final two regular season games, they will clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC and a first-round bye. Patrick Mahomes has been spectacular in close games and the defending champions have managed to squeak out victories week after week. The Chiefs have tied the NFL record with the most one-possession wins in NFL history at 11 this season. Dating back to last season, they have won 16 consecutive one-score games.
