Bowl season culminates with the College Football Playoff National Championship, which will crown the first champion of the new 12-team playoff on Monday, January 20. Next up in deciding the two teams that will ultimately play in that championship game are the CFP quarterfinals, which conclude on New Year’s Day with three matchups.

College Football Playoff 2024-25: Final 12 team bracket revealed, with Oregon top seed, SMU in, Alabama out
1 p.m. – Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl (CFP Quarterfinal) (ESPN/ABC)
5 Texas vs. 4 Arizona State
Quick hit: Texas easily handled ACC champion Clemson in the first round, and the Longhorns are favored once more against the Sun Devils. While Texas has only lost twice to one team this season and has otherwise been relatively dominant, 11-2 Arizona State fell to unranked Texas Tech and Cincinnati earlier in the year. Whether Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo can rack-up yards will be crucial.
5 p.m. – Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential (CFP Quarterfinal) (ESPN/ABC)
8 Ohio State vs. 1 Oregon
Quick hit: It’s a rematch of one of the best matchups of the regular season. Last time out, Oregon bested Ohio State on the Ducks’ home turf, 32-31. The Ducks are the only remaining undefeated team in college football at 13-0, but the Buckeyes put together one of their most complete performances yet in their first-round 42-17 win over Tennessee. Ryan Day has seemingly put the only other blemish on his team’s schedule – a 13-10 loss to Michigan – behind him, setting up a thriller in the quarterfinals.
8:45 p.m. – Allstate Sugar Bowl (CFP Quarterfinal) (ESPN/ABC)
7 Notre Dame vs. 2 Georgia
Quick hit: Between the Rose Bowl and this Sugar Bowl game, good luck picking winners. The Irish are coming off an impressive win over Indiana. Meanwhile, Georgia had no time to revel in its SEC Championship win over Texas after Carson Beck had season-ending UCL surgery. In his stead, Gunner Stockton has spent the better part of the past three weeks getting ready for his first start for the Bulldogs. Stockton was able to make it work in the second half of the conference championship against Texas, but can he do it for a full four quarters against Notre Dame’s pass defense?
The College Football Playoff continues New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with the quarterfinals (see below for the full schedule). The semifinals will be January 9 and 10, and the national championship will be January 20.
