An Olympic kitesurfer pulled off a heroic ocean rescue off the coast of Sao Luis, Brazil.
Bruno Lobo, who competed at the Paris Olympics, was out surfing to test a new video camera when the sound of screaming caught his attention.
The Brazilian, who’s also a doctor, soon spotted a woman frantically struggling in deep water, potentially at risk of drowning.
Skillfully, he maneuvered toward the frightened swimmer and grabbed her. Using his kiteboard, he paddled them both to the safety of the shallows.
Afterward, Lobo brushed aside any talk of heroics.
“Thank God everything went well,” he said. “I only did what had to be done and what was within my reach.”
