President Joe Biden on Thursday hailed the 235 judicial nominations that were confirmed by the Senate during his four years in office — the largest number of confirmations in a single term since Jimmy Carter was president in the 1980s.

Biden touted his slate of judges as “the most demographically diverse…ever in the history of America.”
“When I ran for president, I made a promise I’d have a bench that looks like America that taps into the full talents of this nation. And I’m proud we’ve kept our commitment with the help of these two men and many others,” Biden said.

But he argued most importantly, the judges will help to protect and defend the Constitution as Donald Trump prepares to retake the White House.
“No matter who they are or where they come from, all these appointees, all these appointees understand the role of a judge and are committed to the rule of law. The institutional safeguards built in our Constitution that uphold the rights and guarantees of the Constitution,” Biden said.
“I never thought we’d be talking about this, defending constitutional liberties, replacing and respecting the idea precedent matters,” he added.
The 235 confirmed judges include Ketanji Brown Jackson, who made history as the first Black woman to be confirmed to the Supreme Court and more Black women to the federal courts of appeals than every previous presidential administration combined, according to the White House.
With the confirmation of his 235th judge late last month, Biden surpassed Trump’s mark of 234 judges confirmed during his first term.
Over a quarter of all judges on the federal bench have now been nominated by Biden.
