VINCENT — Warren never trailed here against Caldwell following Sarah Pettey’s steal and layup that resulted in a three-point play to break a two-all tie as the host Warriors improved to 6-3 following a 51-31 triumph.
Pettey, who was named the Warriors’ team MVP, finished with 13 points and joined Josie Venham and Mackenzie James-McGuire for team-high rebounding honors with seven.
James-McGuire’s deep 3 from the top of the key with 1.5 seconds left in the first put Caldwell in a 16-8 hole.
Pettey had a putback for the first points of the second at the 6:55 mark, but the only other field goal came from James-McGuire, who had game-highs of 18 points, five assists and four blocks, when she scored via a Pettey assist following a steal from DeLaney Gates. Gates finished with seven points, four assists and a game-high seven steals.
Lyla Lowe’s free throw with 1:07 left in the half was the only point of the period for Caldwell, which had Breighlee Moracco named MVP after she put up 16 points to go with five boards and a quartet of steals.

Laynie Sidwell’s assist to Moracco at 3:20 of the third had the Redskins within five at 27-22, but Rylee Arnold followed with a bucket for part of her nine counters and then James-McGuire drained a 3 as the hosts led 33-22 entering the fourth.
Lowe finished with a game-high nine rebounds while Lexi Franklin had four points and five rebounds.
Caldwell (3-7) returns to action on Monday when Monroe Central invades and the Warriors play host on Friday to Williamstown.
Fort Frye 52, Belpre 44
Haven Shilling and Emmie Duskey tossed in 13 points apiece to lead three Cadet scorers in double figures as the Cadets downed Belpre 52-44.

The Lady Cadets led by a point heading to the final quarter but outpointed the Golden Eagles 7-1 early on the hang on for their seventh win of the season in eight decisions.
Shilling canned three triples in the opening half and finished with a double-double by yanking down 10 boards in addition to her 13 points.
Duskey did the majority of her damage at the charity stripe as she made 8-of-10 free throws in the game including a pair late in the game that put things away for all intents and purposes.
Ella Dowler finished with 10 points as well while Aubrie Lang and Ava Huffman made huge contributions of their own as they chipped in with nine and seven points respectively.
The win improved the Fort’s record to 7-1 while Belpre slipped to 5-3 with the loss.

The Eagles were led in scoring and rebounding by Gracie Bills with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Haley Alloway added 15 points while dishing out four assists.
BOYS
Warren 81, River Valley 20
Tyler Wooten opened the affair with a bucket for visiting River Valley, but it was all Warren the rest of the way as the Warriors improved to 5-1 following an 81-20 running clock victory.

Warren MVP Colin Anthony, who had 14 points and a game-high eight assists, put the Warriors ahead for good after converting a three-point play following a Tyson Cochran steal.
Following an Anthony 3, Julian Stadelman had a steal and layup for a quick 8-2 cushion. Although Landon Burns, who scored six points along with MVP Austin Richardson, had a three-point play to cut it to 8-5, the Warriors scored the next nine points and led 24-8 after one. Anthony got the spurt going with a steal and a layup and then Hayden Wells, who had 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds, had back-to-back deuces via dimes from Chase Lupardus and Stadelman. River Valley, which dropped to 1-7 and plays host next Saturday to Oak Hill, trailed 17-5 after Cochran’s three-point play.
The visitors, who trailed 37-17 after another three-point play by Burns, watched the Warriors tally the final 14 points of the half.
Stadelman led all scorers with 17 and added six assists. Cochran finished with 11 markers and had a quartet of rebounds.
Connor Barry added seven points off the bench for the Warriors, who also got a 3 and a game-high four steals from Jacob Sealey.
The Warriors will look to continue their winning ways with a home game Thursday versus Monroe Central.
Southern 46, Fort Frye 45
VINCENT — Noah Leachman made his lone point of the game count in a big way as he converted the second of two free throws with 1.1 seconds remaining on the clock to give the Southern Tornadoes a thrilling 46-45 win over the Fort Frye Cadets Saturday morning in the Clash at the Coliseum at Warren High School.
Leachman entered the game when Landon Everson was injured after being fouled with a tick over a second remaining and overcame a pair of Cadets timeouts and some nerves to knock down the second shot to give the Tornadoes the lead.
Fort Frye called a timeout but Clayton Miller’s half-court heave at the buzzer was well off of the mark.
The Cadets carried a four-point lead into the final minutes but could not stop Tornado point-guard Andre Chandler down the stretch.
Chandler knocked down a pair of huge three’s in the final eight minutes including one with 2:10 to play that gave the Tornadoes the lead.
Chandler followed the three up with a two-pointer to give Southern a three-point lead but Fort Frye’s Chatum Courson tied the game with a three-pointer of his own with 15 seconds to play.
Southern inbounded the ball and called a timeout with nine seconds to play to set up their strategy for what they hoped would be a game winning shot.
Chandler broke free on the final play and actually canned a three-pointer but it was waved off when it was determined that Everson was fouled prior to the shot.
Southern was led by Chandler with 23 points while Jake Wickline added 8.
The win was the fifth in a row for the Tornadoes and improved their season mark to 5-1 while the Cadets slipped to 1-5.
Miller led all scorers with 29 points, accounting for all but 16 of the Cadet points.
Waterford 54, Morgan 49 (2 OTs)
Waterford and Morgan needed two overtimes to decide a winner Saturday.
Cole Sparling-Ponchak’s 17-point, 16-rebound double-double, plus two clutch 3-pointers from Reese Lang, helped make sure it was the Wildcats.
WHS outscored the Raiders 12-6 in the second OT to claim a 54-48 victory.
Gavin Hiener also double-doubled for the Wildcats with 11 points and 13 boards. Waterford outrebounded Morgan 47-37.
The Wildcats trailed 25-18 at halftime, but rallied to take a 26-25 lead at the 5:30 mark in the third when Finn Pennock assisted Sparling-Ponchak on a 3-pointer.
Morgan retook the lead later in the period on a basket by Luke Coleman, who finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. The Raiders took a 35-31 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Hiener’s trey early in the fourth got Waterford within one, and neither team scored again until 1:10 left in regulation when Tavian Myers, who led Morgan with 16 points, drove to the bucket to make it a three-point game.
With 27 seconds left, Pennock fired a 3-pointer that was off the mark. However, Sparling-Ponchak corralled the offensive rebound and dished to Lang, who buried a trey to send the game to overtime. Lang finished with 11 points off the bench.
In the first OT, Myers’ free-throw broke a 41-41 tie, but with five seconds left, Pennock hit 1 of 2 at the charity stripe to force a second extra session.
Waterford took a 47-45 lead on pair of free throws by Pennock, who had 12 points, five boards and three assists, but Myers answered with a fastbreak dunk to knot it up with 1:22 left.
On the other end, Lang took a pass from Pennock and knocked down another huge 3-ball.
Down three, Brylee Shannon, who led the Raiders with 10 rebounds, was fouled. He made the first free-throw attempt and missed the second, but got his own offensive rebound and went back up for a shot.
However, Sparling-Ponchak was there to reject it and get the board. He was intentionally fouled and made a pair of foul shots to make it a two-possession game. Waterford held on from there to improve to 3-4 on the year.
Morgan, which shot just 30.5% (18 for 59), dropped to 2-5 on the year.
Myers, who registered seven boards and three dimes, and Sparling-Ponchak, who added five blocks and three assists to his statline, were selected as the players of the game.
Caldwell 54, Belpre 34
Caldwell remained perfect on the season with a 54-34 victory over Belpre Saturday.
The Redskins put on a defensive clinic, holding the Golden Eagles to just 11 field goals on 39 attempts (28.2%). Belpre (4-2) committed 17 turnovers in the contest.
Carter Wheeldin scored a game-high 19 points on 9 of 12 shooting to go along five rebounds. Dylan Schott added 12 points, four steals and three assists while Chaz Pfeffer posted game-high of nine boards and six dimes. Caldwell registered 12 steals as a team — Schott led the way with four.
Belpre, which started the year 4-0 before falling to Meigs Friday, had no double-digit scorers in the contest. Chris Copen had team-highs with nine points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Nasaih Spencer tallied three assists.
Wheeldin and Copen were selected as the players of the game.
Spring Mills 64, Linsly 31
Spring Mills continued to show why it’s the top-ranked team in West Virginia’s Class AAAA, cruising past Linsly 64-31 Saturday.

SMHS led 44-17 at halftime and triggered a running clock early in the third quarter.
Akwasi Opoku-Achampong led Spring Mills with 20 points while Caleb Thomas added 19. D’arrae Goodwin paced Linsly with six. Thomas and Goodwin were selected as the players of the game.
