WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) – Running a business is hard work, but having your mom at your side can make it a lot easier. Standing behind many of Wapakoneta’s small businesses are moms who were there to help.
Casa Chic is a family business, started by Laura Clementz and her family, and about seven years ago she was joined by her daughter and son-in-law. Running a store together keeps everyone close, but it’s the constant encouragement from her mother that got Lynne Skaags into the business in the first place and keeps her motivated.
“So my mom has always been my biggest cheerleader, always supporting us and encouraging us to do whatever it is that we wanted to do, knowing that we could accomplish anything we really dedicated ourselves to,” Skaags said.
19-year-old Jersey Berger, the owner of the Dash and Joey’s franchise, was able to become one of Wapakoneta’s with the help of her mom to purchase a downtown storefront.
“It was never really a question of what are you going to do when you grow up; what are you going to be? It was always just more of an attitude of you’ll figure it out and it will work out when it does. So when I graduated high school, I’ve always wanted to open up a bookstore, and we were just kind of seeing how we can get to that. This location in Wapak, they were looking to sell, and so my mom and I decided to go in together and do it. That was in September of 2022,” she said.
Berger describes her mom, Amanda Wisener, as a creative, hardworking, and supportive person.
