Vivek Oberoi has seen a lot of ups and downs in his life. He taken each of them with a pinch of salt and only worked his way out of it.
Vivek Oberoi was counted amongst the brightest stars after his much-publicised debut in Ram Gopal Varma’s Company. Then came other films and in the midst of those Saathiya happened, opposite Rani Mukerji. The film was a massive hit, propelling Vivek to a height of stardom that only a few saw in their first few films. The fame got to him and he made a few silly moves in the industry including his public spat with Salman Khan, who was a much more established star in the Hindi film industry and enjoys a clout to date.
Vivek looks back to those times and how he reinvented himself – moving from a failed career in films to entrepreneurship. In an interview with The Indian Express, Vivek Oberoi recently opened up about shifting to business after money dried up for him in films.
Recalling his difficult phase in films, Vivek said that he started facing difficulties even after becoming a successful actor. “I was facing challenges even after proving my skills, there was a different kind of pressure when I wasn’t getting offered any films. That was my source of income — I was running my house, charitable foundation with the money I earned through my business and acting in movies, doing events and making appearances, I paid my staff with it too,” he said.
Vivek Oberoi runs a school in Vrindavan. He helps cancer patients and was doing all this with the money he was making in films but suddenly all that stopped and with it the money flow. To keep the cycle running, he ventured into business. He said, “Philanthropy is a part of my life, and I needed to be financially secure. I never asked for money from anyone. I didn’t ask my father, so I wouldn’t ask anyone else either. That’s when I started active business. Got into real estate, founded some companies, some technology companies grew very big. Today, I have invested in around 29 companies.”
Vivek Oberoi starred in successful films like Saathiya, Dum, Masti, Yuva, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Rakhta Charitra 1, Rakht Charitra 2 and Krrish 3. He was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s web show, Indian Police Force.
