The United South Central Rebel boys basketball team had a monster night when they played the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers on Thursday night, Dec. 19.
The Rebels had five of their players hit double figures on their way to a 17-point win, 67-50.
The Rebels survived an early punch from the Panthers by having an 18-2 run to get the score to 33-21 at the end of the first half.
USC led by as much as 23 points in the middle of the second half. NRHEG went on its own run to cut the lead to 13, but the Rebels closed it out for the big win.
Wyatt Sparks led the team with 16 points and also tied for the top number of rebounds with 10, giving him a double-double.
CJ Schumann had 13 points and Dylan Stephens had 12 points. Zayden Schott and Dylan Bonsack each had 10 points, with Bonsack also grabbing 10 rebounds for the team’s second player with a double-double.
The Rebels made 22 of 43 2-point tries (51 percent) and 3 of 13 3-pointers (23 percent). They made 14 of 24 free throws for 58 percent.
The Panthers were 11 of 22 for 2-pointers (50 percent), 8 of 27 3-pointers (30 percent) and 4 of 7 from the free-throw line (57 percent).
The Rebels had 35 rebounds to the Panthers’ 21, 12 assists to their 10, 10 steals to their three, one block to their five, and eight turnovers to their 17.
Next up for the Rebels was a couple of games in the Blue Earth Area Holiday Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27-28.

USC Girls Results
USC 66, Lyle-Pacelli 53
The United South Central girls basketball team got back in the win column with a big victory on Thursday, Dec. 19, against Lyle-Pacelli.
The Rebels took the win by a score of 66 to 53.
Olivia Bungum had a big night, hitting for 24 points for the Rebel girls. She also had seven steals.
Taylor Schroeder added 15 points and Ivy O’Rourke had 14 points, putting three Rebels into double figures.
Alivia Bruegger had eight points and led the team in rebounds with 16. Chloe Bullerman had five points and 11 rebounds.
Next up for the Rebels was a game on Friday night, Dec. 20, against the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers.
