ST. LOUIS — Northern Iowa senior Tytan Anderson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference’s men’s basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
It’s the first weekly conference honor for Anderson and marks the second consecutive week a Panther has won the award. Leon Bond III earned recognition last week.
Anderson, an Eldridge native, posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double in UNI’s 78-67 win over Southern Illinois on Sunday. He shot 6-of-7 from the field and 3-for-3 at the free-throw line to move into a tie for 36th on the school’s all-time scoring list (1,048).
Sunday marked the second consecutive game that Anderson posted a double-double after notching 17 points and 10 boards against Washington State in the Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas before the holiday break.
Anderson is averaging 13.5 points per game as well as a team-high 6.5 rebounds on 57.7 percent shooting. UNI leads all of NCAA Division I men’s basketball with a 52.3 field-goal percentage.
