Lara Trump, President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law who served as co-chair of the Republican National Convention during the 2024 election, said Saturday she is removing her name from consideration to replace Sen. Marco Rubio.
Speculation had swirled among political observers that Lara Trump, one of Donald Trump’s top allies, would fill Rubio’s spot in the upper chamber after Trump tapped him to serve as secretary of state.
But Lara Trump, who announced earlier this month that she would step down from her RNC post, confirmed on X that she was removing herself from consideration for the Senate seat. She added that she was “truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida.”
She also wished Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis “the best of luck with this appointment.” DeSantis will pick a replacement for Rubio, who is expected to resign as senator when Donald Trump takes office on Jan. 20.

“I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,” Lara Trump said on Saturday.
Lara Trump previously told the Associated Press she would consider finishing Rubio’s current term, which ends in 2029.
She is married to Eric Trump, Donald Trump’s son.
While noting there was already strong interest from possible candidates, DeSantis said last month that a selection will likely be made by early January.
