After a full slate of Inauguration Day activities, including the signing of dozens of executive orders making good on his campaign promises and rolling back many of former President Joe Biden’s policies, President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social late Monday that he dismissed four of Biden’s presidential appointees.
“Jose Andres from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the Presidents Export Council — YOU’RE FIRED!” the president wrote.
A presidential appointee is an employee of the federal government who is appointed by the president.
Trump originally appointed Milley as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during his first administration. Milley was kept on during the Biden administration to oversee the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Trump had hired Hook as his envoy to Iran during his first term before Biden appointed him to the nonpartisan global affairs think tank in Washington.
Biden appointed Andres, who founded and leads the disaster relief organization World Central Kitchen, to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition in March 2022, shortly after his group began serving free meals along Ukraine’s border after Russia invaded the country.
Biden appointed Bottoms, a former Atlanta mayor, to the President’s Export Council in 2023 to advise him on international trade.
Trump said his presidential personnel office is currently working to identify and remove over 1,000 of Biden’s presidential appointees, saying they “are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again.”
