Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello on Monday announced she wanted to reallocate about $5 million in federal rescue plan money, which the City Council approved at a special meeting held later in the day – just before the funding’s deadline.
Mantello announced the redirecting of more than $3.6 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding toward improvements and revitalizations at Frear Park, along with additional funding for the city’s lead pipe replacement program and ambulance project.
The Frear Park Revitalization Project includes improvements to its North Lake Avenue playground, ADA compliance and code-related changes, tennis court upgrades, a new community and restaurant facility and more, though the projects will have to be prioritized.
Mantello said the $5 million came from projects that came in under budget, or "did not come to fruition and will not meet the necessary deadline to complete.”
AARP funding must be obligated under contracts by Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024. The city was awarded $42 million in ARPA funding. Projects must be completed in two years from Tuesday.
