As we enter the new year, it’s only appropriate we take a look back at the top five Central Texas sports moments of this past year.

5. Crawford Girls VB wins 2A State Championship
In a rematch of the 2023 2A State Championship match, the Crawford Lady Pirates got the best of Iola this year, defeating them 3-2, claiming their third state title in program history.
4. La Vega Football clinches 4A State Title Game Berth
For the first time since 2019, the Pirates had the chance to play in Jerry World. Though they didn’t come home with hardware, their run was more magical, rattling off 10-straight wins after beginning the season with a 2-3 record.
3. Baylor wins Bluebonnet Battle over TCU with game-winner
It’s not too often that Baylor fans get to storm the field, but when they do, it’s for good reason. A game-winning 33-yard field goal from Isaiah Hankins handed Baylor their first win over their rivals since 2019. After the win, Baylor was just one win away from becoming bowl eligible.
2. La Vega GBB goes back to back
If you know high school basketball, then you know La Vega. Led by head coach Marcus Willis Sr., the Lady Pirates won their second consecutive 4A State Championship in 2024, and they have legit shot at three-peating in 2025.
1. Opening of the Foster Pavilion
It only took two days in 2024 for Central Texas to experience one of it’s most memorable sports moments in a long time. The opening of the much anticipated $212.6 million Foster Pavilion has brought even more life to Baylor basketball, the university, and the city of Waco.
