MARQUETTE — For the third year in a row, Queen City Running Company will hold its Resolution Run, a running event to help participants make friends and start the year off on an active healthy route.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at 130 W. Baraga Ave. Event participants will be completing or partly completing the Muffin Loop. Starting and ending at Queen City Running Company, this seven-mile road race runs all across the city of Marquette.
Participants can also run longer or shorter distances, whatever distance they desire. Owner of Queen City Running Company Kevin Thomsen said that runners are welcome to bring friends, leashed pets and strollers as well.
“No signup needed, just show up with a smile on your face and dress warm if it is cold out,” said Thomsen.
The event is a great way to find like-minded friends and even form a running group.
“It is a neat environment,” Thomsen said. “It gets darker, colder and when we are in that time of year, it gets hard to find a (running) group to stay with that will help you get through those months until it gets to springtime.”
The event originally was started under the name of the SISU Run and was unofficially overseen by local running enthusiast Bill Sved.
Sved has been ever present in the Marquette running community for nearly half a century as a track coach, marathon runner and event coordinator.
“He has been around forever and we don’t want to step on his toes, but we wanted to work with him,” said Thomsen. “It’s been a lot of fun seeing how it has merged together these last three years.”
Even if the event is missed, Queen City Running Company always has opportunities for people to take part in running activities.
“Thursday nights and Saturday mornings there are always people here running and it is a nice way to meet some new people,” Thomsen said.
