Party City will close all of its stores, including three in Erie County, according to a report from CNN.
Party City is closing down all of its stores, ending nearly 40 years in business.
It’s not clear when the stores will close, but some store workers received letters that said stores would close Feb. 28, which would also be their last day employed by the company, CNN said.
Corporate workers were told their last day was Friday, according to the report.
The New Jersey-based national party supply chain store filed for bankruptcy in January 2023 but restructured and emerged in October of that year.
It had been able to cancel $1 billion in debt, but still struggled with the remaining $800 million. It also struggled with a helium shortage, which hurt its balloon business, as well as inflation and shoppers who were hesitant to spend.
Locally, Party City stores are in Cheektowaga, Clarence and Blasdell.
Party City could not be immediately reached for comment.
