➜ 1. Voting continues until noon on Thursday right here at our website for our latest high school Athletes of the Week, powered by Copper Creek Contractors. Four boys’ basketball players and four girls’ basketball players are up for the honor.
➜ 2. The four male finalists are Jackson Dudley from Oakwood, Sam Edmundson from LeRoy, Cayden Love from Champaign Central and Keison Peoples from Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.
➜ 3. The four female finalists are Lainey Ehlers from Tri-County, Addyson Kelnhofer from Hoopeston Area, Cami Slagel from Prairie Central and Caydence Vermillion from Oakwood. You can meet the winners — and their teammates — in next Monday’s News-Gazette.

yards away from 1,000 receiving yards this season for Pat Bryant, who earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors on Tuesday and announced he was declaring for the NFL draft. Bryant could become the eighth Illini wide receiver to hit 1,000 yards in a season if he chooses to play in the bowl game for Illinois either later this month or in early January. His 984 receiving yards this season is second in the Big Ten only behind Tai Felton from Maryland.

Three events I’m paying attention to
➜ 1. Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech volleyball. Former St. Thomas More standout setter Caroline Kerr and her Tennessee teammates open the NCAA tournament at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Madison, Wis. Kerr has 1,012 assists and earned All-SEC Second Team honors earlier this week.
➜ 2. Illinois State at Belmont men’s basketball. Former St. Joseph-Ogden standout Ty Pence and his Illinois State teammates begin Missouri Valley Conference play at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Pence averages 11.1 points for the Redbirds (4-3).
➜ 3. Bethedsa at San Diego State women’s basketball. Former Danville standout Erin Houpt averages 6.2 points for the Aztecs (8-1) before Friday’s home game.

Three questions with Argenta-Oreana baseball coach Eric Gebben:
➜ 1. My favorite sports team is … whichever team I bet on, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
➜ 2. Three coaches I’d like to have dinner with are … Kevin O’Sullivan, Mike Gundy and Mike Leach.
➜ 3. My biggest pet peeve is … always having to move Amazon or Target boxes inside off my front porch this time of year.
