The Ministry of Culture and Media has award ten scholarships worth EUR 1,500 to creatives in Hamburg from 2025. The scholarships for the visual arts offer them a launching pad for a successful artistic future. An exhibition of previous works can be viewed in the Deichtorhallen until January 12, 2025.
A total of 206 applications were submitted this year. The following ten young artists have received scholarships for their outstanding work: Francesca Bertin, Maxime Chabal, Wassili Franko, Katharina Kohl, Lila-Zoé Krauß, Nina Kuttler, Ruxin Liu, Katja Pilipenko, Sohorab Rabbey and Kristina Savutsina. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media, remarked: “The grants have boosted cultural diversity in Hamburg for many years. The scholarships enable artists to concentrate on developing their work for twelve months, relieved of economic constraints, and perhaps try out something new or expand their networks.” More than 400 artists have benefited from the the scheme, in place since 1981, hitherto.
The ministry also helps the artists find exhibitions. The “IN WITH THE NEW exhibition in the Falckenberg Collection, Deichtorhallen is now showcasing works by 30 artists who received grants in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The group exhibition brings together a wide range of themes and artistic styles. Guided tours and artist talks are offered regularly.
