LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — WDRB has obtained surveillance video from a local business showing part of a Louisville man’s crime spree that landed him behind bars.
Louisville Metro Police shared a post on social media Friday evening about 47-year-old Jason McGill. LMPD said in the post that McGill began his crime spree Dec. 10 when he stole a Honda CR-V. Then, on Christmas Eve, LMPD said McGill burglarized the Big-O Tires on Cane Run Road.
McGill’s criminal behavior didn’t stop there. Police said on Dec. 26, McGill broke into the home of an 88-year-old Louisville woman, demanding cash and taking off with the woman’s rare jewelry.
Dec. 28, police said McGill put a stolen license plate on an already stolen Honda CR-V and burglarized the Kaiser Tire on Southside Drive.
Over the span of three days, beginning Jan. 3, LMPD said McGill stole a Jeep, burglarized the AutoWerks on Belmar Drive and stole a Volkswagen Jetta. He’s also accused of breaking into the Homewood Suites on Central Avenue, stealing about $100,000 in fiber optic equipment on Jan. 6, police said.
LMPD finally caught up to McGill Tuesday night outside Oxmoor Mall in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods. Police said McGill rammed two police cars, and was armed with a gun.
When police searched the car, they found meth, rare-looking jewelry, fiber optic equipment, keys to mechanic shops and two more guns.
McGill is facing more than a dozen charges including drug possession, robbery, wanton endangerment, burglary and theft of an automobile. LMPD said he also has additional charges pending from other cases in several of the department’s divisions in the city.
“I think the frustrating thing is they go in and out of jail real quick,” said Tyson Straub, co-owner of the Big O tires store in Shively. Hopefully he’s spending a little bit more time in the crossbar hotel.”
LMPD said in the social media post that the 3rd Division was able to reunite the 88-year-old woman with her stolen jewelry.
McGill was in arraignment court on Jan. 16, where the judge kept his bond at $10,000 cash. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 23.
