SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) – The Sumter Police Department is working to identify the person(s) responsible for the vandalization of a sports complex worth more than $100,000 in damages.
A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Police said the vandalism happened sometime after closing at 8 p.m. Sunday but was discovered Monday morning at the Patriot Park sports complex when a person walking by discovered a possible break-in at the facility.
The vandalization included graffiti from black paint taken from the storage area of the park. Police said damage was inflicted to equipment and electronics such as the heating, air conditioning units, computers, camera/security system, concession stand, various supplies and restrooms.
Officials at Sumter County Government sent out the following statement regarding the vandalism:

Our Recreation & Parks Department works hard to serve our residents and visitors alike. Patriot Park draws about 350,000 people every year and hosts soccer, softball and baseball games and tournaments.
It’s a shame that a vandal or vandals would destroy something that brings joy to so many people. We will repair and clean up and move forward and we support law enforcement’s efforts in bringing justice to those responsible.
