The Hancock College baseball team finished a sweep of its three-game Western State Conference North Division series with Moorpark, winning 6-0 at Moorpark Friday and 8-2 at Hancock’s John Osborne Field Saturday.
The Bulldogs moved to 10-9, 4-2. The Raiders are 3-14, 1-8.
The teams’ game Friday was re-scheduled after their slated Thursday game at Moorpark was rained out.
Hancock right-hander Jaiden Turner (3-1) pitched a six-hit complete game Friday. Turner struck out 11 and walked one.
Owen Bolich had two hits and two RBIs. Josue Garcia had three hits for the Bulldogs, and Andrew Sandoval had two, both doubles.
Hancock right-fielder Shaine Heriford hit a three-run home run to right field in the eighth inning of the second game. Heriford finished with four RBIs. Colin Johnston had two hits and two RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Hancock starter Trevor Jury (1-0) shut out Moorpark on two hits in eight innings. Reliever Raffael Chiarella finished up for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will open a three-game series against traditional rival Cuesta at Cuesta Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
The Saints scored their second non-league doubleheader sweep of the season, beating Riverdale 9-3 and 9-6 at Santa Maria Saturday.
Going into their non-league home game against Valley Christian Academy Monday, the Saints were 4-0.
Jordan Medina and Dominic Martin drove in two runs apiece in the opener Saturday. Medina, Santa Maria’s starting pitcher, gave up one run on four hits over four innings. Martin, the reliever, allowed two runs on one hit over three innings.
Medina did not give up an earned run. Martin yielded one.
Julius Medina had three hits and three RBIs for the Saints in the second game. Alex Ybarra drove in two runs.
The Santa Ynez boys tennis team won its bracket at this tournament at Clovis.
The Pirates defeated Madera Matilda Torres 6-0 then beat Tulare Mission Oak by a game, 47-46, Saturday. The teams tied 3-3 in matches won and 6-6 in total sets won.
Santa Ynez lost 5-1 to Fremont and 5-3 to Bakersfield in pool play Friday.
Mac Halme won all his matches for Santa Ynez. Halm won his matches 7-5, 1-6, 10-8 against Fremont and 6-1, 6-2 against Bakersfield Friday, and 6-1, 6-2 against Torres, and 6-2, 6-2 against Mission Oak Saturday.
Bryce Wilczak won 6-0, 6-0 in singles, and Evan LeMay and Adam Angel won 6-3, 6-4 in doubles to help Santa Ynez get past Mission Oak.
Wilczak won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles in the Pirates’ match against Torres. Cooper Haws also won in straight sets at No. 2. LeMay and Xavier Lovering won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, and Angel and Peter Bailey did the same at No. 2. Jose Montano and Brady Woods won via a retire.
Los Angeles Pierce forfeited the teams’ scheduled Western State Conference North Division Tuesday game at Pierce, and the Bulldogs moved to 2-5, 1-0 at press time going into their Monday WSC North game at Santa Barbara.
A reason for the forfeit was not known at press time.
