Dr. Ambroise Aubrun
Violinist Ambroise Aubrun will give a master class and join State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music faculty in a recital on Wednesday, March 26.
Both the master class, at 5 p.m., and recital, at 8 p.m., will be held in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall and are free and open to the public.
The three-day residency is part of the Visiting Violin Series in the School of Music.
“Perhaps a wonderfully unique aspect of Ambroise’s playing is that he seems equally at home on the modern and period instruments, having done both projects in historical performance as well as world premieres,” commented Assistant Professor Jessica Tong. Ms. Tong founded the Visiting Violin Series.
Dr. Aubrun is an associate professor of violin and string area coordinator at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and artistic director of the Henry J. Bruman Chamber Music Festival, a concert series dedicated to introducing chamber music to new audiences, at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received his D.M.A.
The master class will include performances by three Music Education majors: Alan Alvarez, a junior, originally from the Bronx; Noah Grossbard, a sophomore with an instrumental concentration in violin, from Wantagh, Long Island; and Jordan Manocchi, a senior, with an instrumental concentration in violin, from Schenectady.
Accompanying Aubrun at the recital will be Adjunct Lecturer Isabel Ong, on viola, and Staff Accompanist I-Fei Chen.
Aubrun, hailed as a “marvelous violinist,” by France Musique, with “sensitive tone,” by Pizzicato magazine, is a sought-after soloist, chamber and orchestral musician and teacher. He’s performed extensively throughout Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand.
Though he maintains an ongoing interest in non-classical styles, Aubrun has recorded albums that embrace a wide range of repertoire from J.S. Bach to acclaimed French composer Éric Tanguy. He has performed with Pink Martini, Marco Antonio Solis, Harout Balyan, Moby, Andrew Bird, and Herbie Hancock.
Stamell Stringed Instruments is sponsoring Aubrun’s residency.
