“Prima Facie” is live via satellite at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fredonia Opera House.
The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center will present “Prima Facie” captured live via satellite on Saturday at 1 p.m. The award-winning production is part of Arts in the Afternoon at the Opera House and stars Jodie Comer (Killing Eve).
Comer’s Olivier and Tony Award-winning performances in Suzie Miller’s gripping one-woman play tells the story of Tessa, a brilliant, young barrister. She has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game, defending, cross-examining and winning. An unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof, and morals diverge.
“Prima Facie” takes us to the heart of where emotion and experience collide with the rules of the game. Justin Martin directs the 2023 Olivier Award-winner for Best New Play, captured live in 2022 during a sold-out run at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London’s West End.
The Washington Post calls the production “a compelling, rocket-propelled play. Jodie Comer doesn’t just take the stage. She consumes it.” London’s Telegraph calls it “an astonishing solo tour de force.”
The production runs approximately one hour, 40 minutes with no intermission, and includes sensitive subject matter with references to sex, violence and rape.
