A popular rock band from the early 1990s is set to release its first new album in more than a decade.
The Spin Doctors, who sold more than 10 million copies of their 1991 debut “Pocket Full of Kryptonite,” have released a new single, “Still a Gorilla.” It’s the first single from “Face Full of Cake,” their first album in 12 years, coming in April.
Rolling Stone describes the track, apparently inspired by Robyn’s “Konichiwa Bitches,” as “genuinely surprising and fun, led by a marauding fuzzed-out riff that might have helped them steer out of their mid-Nineties commercial decline if they’d hauled it out sooner.”
Spin Doctors, still led by singer Chris Barron, were an upbeat, pop-rock-jam band-flavored radio staple in the ‘90s thanks to hits like “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong.” The group is still going strong decades later, playing the New York State Fair in 2017 and the Taste of Syracuse in 2023.
“Spin Doctors fans are going to be knocked out by this new record,” Barron promised in a statement. “It’s got that vintage Spin Doctors sound of ear candy and denser material that harkens back to ‘Pocket Full Of Kryptonite’ but with years of experience under our belts.”
