Eastern had several different athletic events happen over the weekend. Here’s a quick recap of what happened:
Women’s Basketball
The Panther’s are 11-6 overall, and they are leading the Ohio Valley Conference with an 8-0 record.
Eastern recorded the win against Tennessee State 67-54 on Saturday afternoon in Nashville.
Senior guard Kiyley Flowers scored eight straight points in the third quarter, and her streak of games with at least one steal now stands at 53 after she recorded one steal against the Tigers.
Senior forward Macy McGlone had her 40th career double-double on Saturday with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
Senior guard Alex Rouse was the second player in double figures, as she scored 10 points.
The Panthers are set to play Morehead State at home this Thursday. Tip off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Men’s Basketball
Eastern fell 84-65 against Tennessee State this past Saturday in Nashville.
Junior guard Zion Fruster led the Panthers with 18 points, and was two for five on three pointers.
Graduate forward Kooper Jacobi recorded 14 points and 13 rebounds, recording his seventh double-double of the season.
Graduate guard Artese Stapleton scored 14 points as well.
Senior guard Corey Sawyer Jr. was four for four on free throws.
Eastern cut the lead to 10 on the opening possession of the second half to trail 40-30 but never got the lead back to single digits.
The Panthers fell to 5-13 overall and 1-6 in the OVC.
Eastern is set to play Morehead State at home Thursday. This game will be broadcasted on ESPNU, and tip off is at 8 p.m.
Track & Field
The Panthers hosted their first meet of the indoor season, the John Craft meet.
Eight Panthers finished in first place.
Graduate thrower Matthew Gladieux started his events off strong, throwing a distance of 17.93m in weight throw. He went on to throw 16.50m in shot put, and he claimed first place in both events.
Additionally, the Panthers had three athletes finish in first place in the long, triple and high jump.
Graduate hurdles/jump athlete Ramsey Hunt recorded a long jump distance of 7.60m.
Freshman jump athlete Enoch Appiah-Kubi recorded a triple jump of 13.60.
Senior high jump/hurdles athlete Elijah Skutt recorded a jump of 2.05m.
Moreover, the Panthers finished with multiple athletes claiming the top spot in different running events.
Sophomore sprinter Abby Venhaus ran a time of 26.55 seconds in the 200m finishing in first place. Venhaus also competed in the long jump finishing in second place with a distance of 5.40m.
Graduate sprinter Jahleel Perrin finished with a first place medal in the 60m with a time of 22.51.
For the distance runners, Brenda Torres and Joseph Stoddard both picked up first place finishes in the mile and 3000m run.
Torres finished the mile with a time of 5:07:01 and Stoddard finished the 3000m with a time of 8:30:09.
The Panthers will travel to Champaign this Friday to compete in the Illini Invite.
Women’s Tennis
Eastern’s women’s tennis team lost their season opener 6-1 in Terre Haute, Indiana, against North Dakota.
Freshman Ornella Lomenzo picked up a win for the Panthers playing singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Fighting Hawk Jule Schulte.
At No. 4 singles, Charleigh Fay lost in two sets 6-2, 7-6 after pushing her second set against Nore Heinitz.
Eastern is set to play Northern Illinois this Saturday at the Huskie Courts starting at 1 p.m.
Men’s Tennis
The Panthers lost their third match of the season Sunday evening 6-1 at Illinois State.
Eastern opened the match winning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Alex Aldaz and senior Pieke Bouman opened the match with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Eastern’s senior Zach White and freshman Ludolph Wiggett then went to clinch the overall doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1.
EIU falls to 0-3 on the season after a pair of losses at Texas Tech on Saturday.
