Another week, another fine for a guy falling into the end zone and grabbing his junk.
Actually, it doesn’t happen every week. But it has happened twice this year.
Last month, Lions receiver Jameson Williams did it. The NFL fined him $19,697. Last week, Broncos linebacker Nik Bonitto did it, capping his return of an intercepted backward pass to the house with a backward dive into the end zone and a hand on his crotch. He was fined $8,791.
Williams got a bigger fine because he was a repeat offender of the celebration rules.
Lynch made the move famous by doing it to cap his Beastquake run in the 2010 playoffs against the Saints. He did it after that, too. Multiple times.
At one point, the league was selling photos of the moment Marshawn made the grab. The NFL quickly discontinued it.
Lynch referred to the move as grabbing his “ding-ding sauce.” The message from the league is clear; if you do it, the league will grab your ding-ding dollars.
