Everton grabbed a point late on after an injury-ravaged Newcastle dominated large spells at St James’ Park.

Alexander Isak gave dominant Newcastle an early lead but Everton hung in there, largely thanks to the brilliance of Jordan Pickford, and were handed a lifeline late on.
Paul Dummett hauled down Ashley Young in the box and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended his long goalscoring drought to make it 1-1 and grab a valuable point for Everton.
The point moves Everton four clear of the relegation zone on 26 points but the Toffees are 13 games without a win in the league which is their second-longest winless league run in club history. Newcastle lost ground in the race for European qualification as they move on to 44 points.
Heckled from the first minute to the last by the Newcastle faithful, Jordan Pickford, a lifelong Sunderland fan, was the reason Everton got a point at St James’ Park. His trademark grin will be wide as he heads home from Newcastle. He made a fine stop early on from Barnes and then denied Murphy and Guimaraes and was in total control as Newcastle peppered the Everton box for large periods of the game. In the past he has failed to control his emotions in games like this where he is heckled and made to be the villain but this time he showed real maturity. Aside from some time wasting late on. Because of course. Pickford is underrated and his form for Everton has been so consistent and a big reason why they have stayed up over the last two seasons and why they look likely (potential second points deduction dependent) to stay up again.
Via our friends at FotMob.com you can see Isak had another stellar outing, while Pickford stood tall in goal for Everton. Bruno Guimaraes never stopped running in midfield for Newcastle who were running on empty.
Newcastle head to Fulham on Saturday, April 6, while Everton head to Burnley on the same day.

That was a thrilling finale as Newcastle created so many chances but Everton were gifted a way back into the game and almost won it late on. Big point for the Toffees, that.
Not the most convincing penalty you’ve ever seen but Calvert-Lewin hammers it and Dubravka gets a hand to it but can’t keep it out. Calvert-Lewin’s first Premier League goal since October comes at a crucial time for Everton.
VAR had a look at it and Dummett cleared dragged Young to the ground. The ref goes to the monitor and you know what that means: penalty to Everton.
Barnes dances into the box and set up Isak to surely score but his shot from six yards out is cleared off the line by Mykolenko. So many chances now at both ends.
Everton almost equalize as James Garner turns and curls a low shot past Dubravka but it hits the post and bounces back out. Everton are having a go now. 23 minutes to go.
A quick free kick catches out Everton as Bruno plays in Isak and he crosses for Burn to slot home. Hang on. VAR is checking on Isak was just offside when the free kick was played. No goal.
A corner for Newcastle comes off Tarkowski and hits his own post and bounces out. Everton’s skipper can smile about it now but that was so close to a comical own goal.
A dominant first half from Newcastle with Isak scoring and going close, while Murphy also went close twice and Pickford made two big stops. Everton had chances through Tarkowski and Doucoure and are somehow still in this. They shouldn’t be.
Brilliant play from Lewis Hall down the left as he digs out a cross and it finds Murphy but his powerful drive is saved by Pickford. Everton’s goalkeeper has kept them in this. For now.
A long ball over the top finds Isak and he dances around Branthwaite and Everton’s defense before curling home into the far corner. Incredible composure from Isak and Newcastle deservedly lead.
Oh wow, that is a massive chance for Everton captain James Tarkowski. Dwight McNeil whips in a free kick but Tarkowski heads over the bar from close range and is fuming.
Newcastle have come flying out of the blocks and Isak is free on the edge of the box and his shot is blocked but the ball falls straight to in-form Harvey Barnes who tries to lift his shot over Jordan Pickford but the Everton goalkeeper smothers the effort superbly. The Sunderland lad is getting booed every time he touches the ball by the Newcastle fans but he got the better of them then.

With so many injuries, Newcastle are down to very limited options at the back and we should expect Krafth, Burn, Schar and Hall to start as a back four. Gordon was excellent against West Ham but is suspended so Barnes should start out wide and Isak has also led the line superbly.

It’s all about who starts up top for Everton as Dyche keeps swapping Calvert-Lewin and Beto and the latter found the net after coming off the bench at Bournemouth so he should get the nod.
