Harlem Berry, St. Martin’s
St. Martin’s senior running back Harlem Berry showed even more of his all-around football skills during his prolific senior season.
Already a standout ball carrier, the Gatorade Louisiana player of the year selection and LSU signee capped his high school career by showing off his pass catching ability and his ability to make big plays on defense.
Berry ran for 2,000 yards in all four of his high school seasons, including 2,178 yards and 41 touchdowns rushing as a senior. Additionally, the 5-foot-11, 188-pound Berry caught 20 passes for 340 yards and four touchdowns. On special teams, he returned one kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

And on defense as an outside linebacker, Berry had 26 total tackles, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and five pass breakups. All enough for the Times-Picayune to select Berry as the small schools’ all-metro offensive player of the year for the 2024 season.
With Berry in the backfield, St. Martin’s reached unprecedented heights as a football program, including the school’s first semifinal berth when Berry was a sophomore. Berry’s high school athletic career included winning track and field state championships in the 100 and 200 meters and playing on a state championship winning basketball team.

Trevontae Williams, South Plaquemines
South Plaquemines senior Trevontae Williams not only starred as a dominant defensive tackle on a state championship football team but also started on the offensive line at left tackle and played running back.
“He was one of one,” South Plaquemines coach Lyle Fitte said about Williams’ versatility.

For that, the Times-Picayune selected Williams as the small schools’ all-metro defensive player of the year for the 2024 season.
Williams completed the season with 96 total tackles (58 solo), 17 tackles for loss and 5½ sacks. At running back, he rushed 19 times for 130 yards and four touchdowns, including a touchdown in a state semifinal win against Logansport.
Fitte said Williams’ high production on defense, despite constant double-teaming by opposing teams, as a key reason District 10-2A coaches selected Williams as the all-district defensive most valuable player.
South Plaquemines won the Division IV nonselect state championship with Williams among several two-way players who made significant contributions.
The 6-foot, 235-pound senior started the past two seasons on the offensive and defensive lines. He played only on the defensive line as a sophomore.

Lyle Fitte, South Plaquemines
Lyle Fitte of South Plaquemines coached his alma mater to a state championship, and this was the first state title won by the school since Fitte played on the teams that won titles in the 2007 and 2008.
Fitte coached a roster that included several two-way players who starred on offense and defense. South Plaquemines ran plays out of several unusual formations, each designed to give Fitte’s team an edge.
South Plaquemines won the Division IV nonselect state championship in the first season after the school moved back to the lowest enrollment classification for the playoffs. Fitte, who played in college at Louisiana Tech, has been the head coach for the past eight seasons.
