West Palm Beach (CBS12 News) — Brand new legacies were established in Palm Beach County sports in 2024, including West Boca Raton High School winning their first ever football state championship. The Bulls and others were looking for some Hall of Fame recognition on Sunday night, and they got it.
West Boca Raton Head Coach Dylan Potts announced as the High School Coach of the Year at the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame Awards celebration, after leading the Bulls to that incredible state title. Potts was in some amazing company in that category, including Jonah Delvillar and Dan McClellan from Oxbridge Academy golf, and former Marlins pitcher Jordan Yamamoto, who coached Dwyer baseball to a state title.
The Special Olympics Athlete of the Year Award was presented to Brandon Boterf, who has been competing in several sports and making us proud for well over a decade.
Boca Raton soccer goalie and 2024 state champion Carmine Ricciardi was honored as the Male High School Athlete of the Year. The Female High School Athlete of the Year is Tekoa Barnes. The Boca Christian Volleyball senior outside hitter was an important part of their third state championship appearance.
FAU Softball’s Trinity Schlotterbeck took on the honors for Amateur Athlete of the Year. The Owls starting pitcher also led the team in home runs and RBI’s in in 2024..
Adam Epstein with a well-deserved honor, winning Coach of the Year from the Keiser swim team, who were 2025 NAIA swimming and diving national champions for both men and women.
Meanwhile, what a 2025 Hall of Fame Class, featuring to Palm Beach County football stars that went up against each other in high school, then moved onto the NFL and CFL. Vinny Sutherland and Korey Banks, who is a two-time Grey cup champion and great Anquan Boldin’s cousin.
Long time Palm Beach Gardens and Cardinal Newman baseball coach Joe Russo was inducted in front of his friends and family, as was legendary Palm Beach County football head coach Bill Powers, along with Andy Kissner. John I. Leonard basketball coach Jim Howell was also honored along with Barrett Sanders, the record-breaking track and field star who went to Kansas.
The outstanding sports contributor honors were awarded to Boca Hoops.
