Sid Edwards gives a speech after being sworn in as East Baton Rouge Mayor-President at River Center Theatre on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Sid Edwards, who took over last week as East Baton Rouge mayor-president, has named Lon Vicknair, a retired naval officer and chemical facility manager, his chief of staff, his administration announced Monday.
Vicknair, 43, served for 20 years in the Navy, with deployments in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa, according to a press release.
His most recent job was as a senior commercial manager for PSC Group, managing logistic and sustainability operations for chemical facilities in Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee and California.
A Baton Rouge native, Vicknair is a reserve police officer in Central and president of the Central Veterans Memorial. He has a bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in professional military history and will soon finish an MBA from LSU, the release says.
“I’m excited to work for the citizens of Baton Rouge and Mayor Edwards to ensure Baton Rouge is the city that our children want to call home and becomes the example that other Southern cities follow,” Vicknair said.
Vicknair ran for East Baton Rouge Metro Council in District 4 as a Republican in 2020 but got 12% of the vote, the fewest among the four candidates. Aaron Moak later won seat in the December runoff and still holds it today after running unopposed in 2024.
This is a developing story.
