MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Winter weather has returned to West Michigan. And with no major thaws in sight, the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park is embracing the cold by opening for business.
The persistent cold and bursts of snow have allowed the Muskegon luge track to be opened to the public as of Friday, Jan. 10.
The ice skating rink is also open to the public; however, the ice skating trail is not yet open as it still needs more ice.
Both cross-country skiing and snowshoeing still need a couple more inches of snow to open to the public, but Dan Bonner with the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park said snow will probably arrive Friday.
The ice rink is “probably 30 coats of water with a firehose,” said Bonner.
They built both the ice rink and luge track within the past week.
“We called in one day; we bought pizza, and we called in our high schoolers to carry the snow. And so, we had about 10 high schoolers out here with a crew of four of us building the track,” said Bonner.
One of the curves on the luge track, “Shady Curve,” was built in a record pace of just over two hours.
Bonner is optimistic that by next week, all of the activities they have to offer at the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park will be open to the public.
He suggested that you check the conditions page on their website to stay up to date on what activities are currently open.
They are open Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
On Fridays and Saturdays, they are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
