WASHINGTON (7News) — Students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade across 80 D.C. public schools are receiving 29,000 NBA-sized basketballs in a new "District Dribble" campaign.
Led by Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) and its CEO Ted Leonsis, "District Dribble" is part of a wider campaign under MSE’s multi-year, multi-million dollar District of Play initiative, according to a press release from the company.
“District Dribble” seeks to expand access to youth sports and foster healthier communities across D.C., MSE said in a statement.
The campaign will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday, dozens of community volunteers will gather to prep the delivery, using basketball pumps, a 7.5 metric ton shipment and nearly 1,000 boxes.
Then on Thursday, students can expect a ball distribution and a "District Dribble" tip-off hosted by the Wizards in-game. They will also get the chance to meet Washington Wizards, Mystics and Go-Go players.
According to MSE, the District of Play is designed to transform youth sports opportunities and strengthen community bonds in D.C. Through large-scale investment and public-private collaboration, MSE is committed to ensuring every young resident has the chance to engage in active, healthy play.

MSE hopes to distribute the nearly 30,000 basketballs to every student over the next four years.
