OHIO — Ballots are being sent to military and overseas voters, officially beginning the May 6 primary election.
The ballots are being sent from the 88 county boards of elections, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced on Friday.
“Ohioans serving our country or living abroad should never miss the opportunity to have their voices heard back home,” said LaRose. “With the Military Ready-to-Vote Packet or Ohio Voter Passport, you can securely receive and cast your ballot from anywhere in the world while accessing the information you need to make an informed decision on candidates and issues.”
For military voters, the state has gathered resources for everything they may need, such as ballot request forms, deadlines and submission instructions, which can be found here. Residential civilians overseas can find similar materials here.
Under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, those who can vote while outside the country include:
LaRose also said veterans have an opportunity to answer "the Second Call to Duty," by working as poll workers during the election season.
“As veterans, we swore an oath to protect our nation," LaRose said. "Now, I’m asking you to continue upholding that life-long oath by helping protect our democracy. You can do that by stepping up as a poll worker this spring."
Within the May 6 primary is one statewide issue — Issue 2, also known as the “Local Public Infrastructure Bond Amendment.” If the issue passes, the amendment would authorize $2.5 billion for the State Capital Improvement program toward local government’s infrastructure projects.
There will also be school, police and fire levies on local ballots and open city council seats. The deadline to register to vote is April 7.
