ILLINOIS — Family members are opening a boxing gym as a labor of love in memory of a local aficionado — and hope it will offer a lifeline to those struggling with addiction.
Plus, a retail chain’s closure if the final store closing at a local mall, while a couple is making their lifelong dream come true by opening a suburban sushi spot.

The driver was rushed to a hospital after the vehicle crashed into the fast-food restaurant. One customer who was eating inside the restaurant was also injured.
The closure, among 27 planned by the chain, is the final store in the mall, which itself closed in March.
“What we want with this program, was what we planned on in the beginning,” Joe Leonard said. “To give somebody a safe space, a good community, a good area for people to go to, to be healthy, mentally, physically—and it all incorporates boxing.”
The company said it “specializes in providing third-party handling, storage, distribution, and value-added services to the food industry.”
Now with its second area location, the eatery offers breakfast and lunch sandwiches, soups, salads and pastries.
The barbecue restaurant will close after just under three decades in business due to a lease dispute, its owner said. He’s hopeful they can find another space in the area to reopen.
The chain is closing two Illinois locations, and 27 across the country.
