TERRE HAUTE, Ind.(WTHI) – Local businesses are making some significant upgrades to better serve you and that’s thanks to $1.5 million in grants. .
The United Way of the Wabash Valley presented grants to 26 Terre Haute businesses. The money comes from the American Rescue Plan Act.
The city allocated the money to the United Way. The organization then awarded the money through its small business grant program. The goal is to improve the local economy and keep more money here at home.
Once just a single nail artist, Nails by Nikki is now helping other small businesses get their start.
It’s all through the small business grant.
Lorri Nikki Voltmer has been doing nails since 1994. Since then she’s grown her nail empire with friends and family supporting her along the way.
Now, through the help of the community, she’s able to give other businesses a head start.
Voltmer said, “Very thankful, very blessed, and plan on doing the best I possibly can.”
With the $63,000 that Voltmer received, she’ll be building 6 new suites for businesses to use as office space or salon space.
From hairstylists to lash specialists to insurance agent, she says she’s open to any business coming in.
After meeting with the contractor, she’ll have an idea of how long construction will take. But her goal is to have things up and running by the spring of 2025.
Voltmer said, “Super excited that we’re gonna be able to do this. We’re gonna go ahead and take out a loan for the part that we didn’t get. It’s exciting, gonna be a little stressful, I’m sure, but it’s still very very exciting.”
Voltmer says the environment she and her employees have built alongside clients is one she looks forward to sharing.
“We’re just very blessed to have the clientele we have and the faithfulness of our clientele.”
Nails by Nikki is still looking for new businesses to fill the suites. Once construction is completed in 2025, those spots will be available.
