HONOLULU (Island News) — Legendary Hawaii sports broadcaster Don Robbs has died.
Robbs, 88, was known as the “Voice of Rainbow Baseball,” calling more than 2,000 games during a 40-plus year career.
The 2015 inductee into the University of Hawaii Sports Circle of Honor was also the general manager of KKEA 1420AM and called his final Rainbow Baseball game in 2016.
Robbs made many historic calls during his illustrious career including Rainbow Baseball’s legendary run in the 1980 College World Series.
Less than a year ago, Robbs, along with another Hawaii sportscasting legend, the late Jim Leahey, would be recognized by the University of Hawaii with its baseball press box at Les Murakami Stadium being renamed after them.
Robbs’ son, Scott, would follow in his footsteps, becoming a prominent sportscaster in Hawaii.
