TRPA has not conducted a formal environmental impact statement for Lake Tahoe since 2012.
Nevada and California lawmakers are pushing the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to update and improve key environmental thresholds. Those thresholds include air and water quality, soil conservation, vegetation, noise, recreation, scenic resources, and fish and wildlife
Nevada Senator Skip Daly, a Democrat from Washoe, serves as the chairperson of the Nevada Legislative Committee for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).
He recently sent a letter to the TRPA requesting an environmental update. Senator Daly has asked for the updated environmental impact statement to be completed before the upcoming 2025 Nevada Legislative Session, which begins on the first Monday of February.
As previously reported, the TRPA has not conducted a formal environmental impact statement for the basin since 2012. However, they consistently analyze and update key environmental thresholds.
Senator Daly’s letter, sent on October 16, followed months of public testimony at both the state capitol and the TRPA headquarters in Stateline, Nevada. Just days after Senator Daly’s letter, the California Attorney General’s office also contacted the TRPA, advising them to meet reduction goals related to one of their key environmental milestones: reducing vehicle miles traveled.
We have contacted the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency about these developments. While the office is closed for the holidays, we are scheduled to speak with them on Monday.

Construction of the Waldorf Astoria project in Crystal Bay, which is planned to be built over the old Biltmore Lodge and Casino, has been halted and is uncertain.
The amendments change Tahoe’s land use plan to allow for higher density buildings as tall as 65 feet in town centers, or about five stories.
