WATCH: Large fire destroys scooter store at Highland Heights strip mall, MFD says
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A large fire early Monday destroyed a scooter store in the Highland Heights neighborhood, officials said.
As of 8:45 a.m., the Memphis Fire Department (MFD) said the blaze was under control.
It happened at a strip mall on Summer Avenue near National Street.
An MFD spokeswoman said firefighters had been on the scene for about five hours before the fire was contained. She added that the reason why it took so long to put it out was because of the highly flammable lithium-ion batteries in the scooters and winds blowing through the area.
A FOX13 crew arrived to find that the fire spread to other units at the strip mall but it was unknown the extent of the damage.
A cause of the fire remained unknown.
