After a weeklong break, the Kent State men’s basketball team returned to action Sunday and lost 81-54 to sixth-ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Golden Flashes’ VonCameron Davis scored his 1,000th career point in the loss. The senior forward finished with nine points to become the 35th KSU player to reach that milestone.
Despite a 16-0 Tide run in the first half, Kent State trailed by just five at halftime before Alabama (10-2) pulled away in the second half.
Davis, Marquis Barnett and Delrecco Gillespie each scored nine points to lead the Flashes (8-3), who host Heidelberg on Dec. 29.
The Kent State women’s basketball team rallied from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to force overtime before losing 67-61 at Coppin State on Dec. 19.
The Golden Flashes (6-5) outscored the Eagles 21-7 in the fourth quarter behind sophomore Janae Tyler’s eight points. Seniors Jenna Batsch and Bridget Dunn combined for a 6-0 run over the final 1:15 to send the game to the extra session, but Coppin State (8-5) then outscored Kent State 9-3 to win.
Dunn grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds, while Dionna Gray topped Kent scoring with 13 points and Batsch added 11 points.
The Flashes will host John Carroll at 1 p.m. Dec. 29.
