MIAMI – Former Miami Commissioner Ken Russell is making a bid for the city’s top job, vowing to clean up city hall and put an end to what he calls a culture of “corruption.”

“Miami’s government has been hijacked by backroom deals and self-serving politicians,” Russell said in a news release on Monday. “I’ve fought against this before, and I’m ready to take out the trash. Corruption in Miami isn’t just an open secret — it’s a way of doing business.”
Russell added, “Pay-to-play shakedowns, government weaponization against its own people, elected officials using public office for personal gain — Miami deserves better. I’ve fought corruption before, and I’m running for Mayor to take out the garbage at City Hall.”
Russell first stepped into public service after successfully pushing the city to clean up a contaminated park in his neighborhood.
As a commissioner, he championed campaign finance transparency, opposed questionable pension deals and helped secure more than 100 acres of new parks for residents.
Now, he says he’s ready to bring that fight to the mayor’s office.
