ATLANTA — Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she’s not done with politics. In an interview this week with 11Alive’s Faith Jessie, Bottoms teased that there’s more to come in her political career.
“I’m keeping all of my options open,” she said. “We know there are races that will be taking place in the state of Georgia in 2026. I’m paying attention to what those opportunities may be.”
In her 11Alive interview, Bottoms didn’t mention what races she’s considering, but one key election that Georgians will cast a ballot for next year is for governor. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp will hit his term limit in the next election, which opens the door for others vying for the position. Kemp’s Democratic challenger during his last two gubernatorial campaigns was Stacey Abrams.
Bottoms said she’s been praying and discussing what could be next in her career with her family.
“I’ll just say stay tuned,” she said.

“I’ve never retired from politics,” she said. “From leaving the mayor’s office to my time in going into the White House, my involvement with the DNC as a party and I always said when I left the mayor’s office that was not the end of my career in politics.”
While she didn’t give anything else away about the future, when asked if she sees herself on the campaign side or in the driver seat, Bottoms replied: “driver seat.”
Bottoms served as Atlanta mayor from 2018 to 2022 before joining the Biden administration. President Donald Trump claimed she was fired from her White House role — where she recently served on former President Joe Biden’s Export Council — but Bottoms said she resigned.
11Alive will have more of the conversation with Bottoms on Sunday at 11 a.m. on the Georgia Vote.
