Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has had an impressive rookie season by any measure, but his knack for making big plays in the final moments might stand out above everything else.
Daniels led a fourth-quarter comeback in Week Two against the Giants, but his Hail Mary to beat the Bears was the first moment where his flair for the dramatic really grabbed the interest of the football world. That set the stage for Sunday’s stunner against the Eagles in Washington.
The Commanders trailed by five points when they got the ball back with 1:52 left to play and Daniels used his arm and his legs to move them to the 9-yard-line with 10 seconds left to play. Daniels delivered his fifth touchdown pass of the game one play later and the Commanders moved closer to ending a long playoff drought with a 36-33 win.
“I love those types of situations,” Daniels said in his postgame press conference. “When it’s on thin ice and plays need to be made, that’s what you live for. If you really love the sport, you live for those big-time moments where it comes down to the end, everything’s against you, your back is against the wall. How will you respond?”
Daniels has had all the right responses this season and that makes for a bright present and future in Washington.
