IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Falls Youth Arts Centre’s annual benefit concert is happening next week with proceeds going to help local youth.
The production is called “Roger’s Revue: Epic Broadway!” It will take place Jan. 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. at the Frontier Center for the Performing Arts, 501 S. Holmes Avenue in Idaho Falls.
“We have a whole gamut of songs from different shows and these in particular, as I was putting them together, (I thought), ‘They’re big. There’s some real neat moments in there.’ So I decided the title ‘epic’ was appropriate,” said Roger Evans the director of the upcoming concert. He is also on the IFYAC board of directors and is the treasurer.
The proceeds will be used for various things, such as funding scholarships for students to attend summer theater camps, providing money to help youth get involved in IFYAC’s beginner strings program and to support IFYAC’s scholarship for graduating seniors in the community.
The upcoming concert will feature a little over 20 songs with music from shows such as “Camelot,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Hamilton,” “Chicago,” “Hello, Dolly!” and “The Bridges of Madison County.”
“We want to have variety … (so there) are different songs that fit the different singers,” Evans said. “There are a number of ensemble songs that are fun. We try to have some deep soulful tunes and some fun ones too. It’s across the board.”
The performers will be mostly be adults, but some kids will be on stage as well. There will also be a full live orchestra.
“It’s a showcase of high-quality entertainment for the area,” Evans said. “One of the biggest remarks that I’ve heard afterward is, ‘I didn’t know we had that kind of talent here.’”
Evans encourages community members to come support IFYAC by attending the concert, which he describes as being “entertaining.”
“It’s going to tug at your heart sometimes, (and) it is going to be exciting (and) frolicky other times — just what Broadway shows do to you. They pull you through those emotions,” he said.
At the benefit concert, IFYAC will also be awarding its new scholarship, the “Idaho Falls Youth Arts Centre Performing Arts Scholarship,” worth $2,500. It will be given to two local high school seniors.
The funds are intended to assist with tuition, fees, books and other educational expenses as they pursue higher education or certification through an accredited advancement program.
“We’re supporting a program that changes lives,” Evans said. “It’s a proven fact that the performing arts affects kids in such a positive way.”
Tickets to the show are $20 and can be purchased online by clicking here or at the door.
