NeuroCare Long Island, a group of four neurosurgeons with offices throughout Suffolk County, has joined the health system. The surgeons, all of whom have practiced on Long Island and throughout the metropolitan region, will now perform surgeries at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.
Dr. Kevin Mullins, who served as the group’s co-leader, has been named chair of neurosurgery at the hospital. Co-leader Dr. Salvatore Zavarella is now the hospital’s vice-chair of neurosurgery. They are joined by Dr. Joshua Ryan and Dr. Salvatore Insinga.
“The physicians and staff at NeuroCare Long Island are excited to join Northwell Health, and to continue our mission of bringing the highest level of compassionate care to our patients in the communities we serve,” Mullins said in a news release.
“Northwell’s clinical and administrative resources, along with NeuroCare’s ‘patients first focus will ensure that patients in our Long Island communities who are faced with disorders of the spine or brain will have access to world-class treatment, close to home,” he added.
The doctors treat conditions including brain tumors, aneurysms, strokes, back and neck pain and more. Their offices are in Huntington, Holbrook and West Islip.
“My priority as a neurosurgeon is to be able to offer my patients the most advanced treatment options resulting in high quality outcomes and shorter recovery times,” Zavarella said in the news release.
“These are exciting times in terms of surgical advances, and joining Northwell Health will allow my partners and I to continue to offer patients a tailored, individualized treatment plan, leveraging those advances, across the continuum of care,” Zavarella added. “I’m proud to work with Northwell Health leadership on the expansion of high-quality neurosurgical services across Long Island.”
“Northwell Neurosurgery is constantly striving to strengthen our team and improve care to all patients dealing with problems of the brain and spine,” Dr. Daniel Sciubba, a senior vice president for neurosurgery at Northwell, said in the news release. “With the partnership of NeuroCare Long Island, we have now expanded our expertise to increase options for all such patients throughout Long Island.”
In 2022, South Shore University Hospital completed the 6,300-square-foot Linda and John Bohlsen Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit, which is designed to treat critically ill neurology patients.
