An area health-care facility teaming with an educational partner to offer training and career opportunities for community members who speak English as a Second Language (ESL).
Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center located at 10836 Temple Road, and Erie 2 BOCES are involved in an initiative that provides on-the-job training, language development and career pathways that allow individuals to start at entry-level positions and progress toward nursing careers. The program is free and no prior experience is required.
Sheyla Gonzalez-Colon, Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center’s on-site bilingual ESL assistant is passionate about the benefits this opportunity brings to the Spanish-speaking community in the Southern Tier. She has been instrumental in the program’s development and is available to assist participants in navigating job opportunities, understanding workplace policies and accessing resources.
The program offers a number of opportunities and has been designed to accommodate individuals at varying levels. This includes preparing participants for certified nursing assistant training and other available positions at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Participants will work on understanding spoken and conversational English, improving comprehension and developing writing skills.

Colleen Hart, administrator at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center also added, “Our collaboration with BOCES empowers individuals to gain valuable skills and thrive in health care careers.”
