HONOLULU (Island News) — The state is poised to significantly expand the amount of red light and speed cameras at intersections on Oahu and across the Islands.
There are currently 17 red light/speed cameras at 10 intersections on Oahu. Island News has learned that the state Department of Transportation is looking to add cameras to 20 new intersections per year during an eight-year period.
These intersections are located on Oahu, Hawaii Island, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and Lanai.
DOT has been running the automated red light and speed enforcement programs since 2022, and it intends to expand the program statewide.
Island News has reached out to DOT for more information about this expansion.
