Omaha announced plans for the $35 million complex at Levi Carter Park earlier this year.
It says it will level the playing field for the community.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 29, developers are at Sherman Elementary School, sharing some of the latest updates on the project and hearing feedback from the community.
The building is expected to be 100,000 square feet with court space, a wrestling room and soccer fields.
It’ll also have a computer lab and a health screening space to increase tech and health care access in an underserved area.
Residents say the area is lacking in new developments and places for the community to meet, especially with the closure of the community center about four years ago. They think the complex will benefit the neighborhood and beyond.
“It just gives you a better option for recreation because there isn’t a lot down there. There’s currently a splash park and a boat ramp and — used to be way more back in the day, so I, I’m glad to see the city rebuilding it,” said Joe Higgins, president of the Levi Carter Park Neighborhood Association.
