Evans initially provided advisory support before moving to a full management contract in 2016, working closely with newly appointed Course Manager Sam Evans. Through weekly visits and remote support, they introduced structured agronomic programmes, later scaling back consultancy to a Level 3 Management Agreement as these became embedded.
Following Sam’s departure in 2020, Ryan Bezzant took over as Course Manager, prompting a temporary return to full management support. As Ryan grew into the role, consultancy reverted to Level 3, with monthly visits and ongoing technical support, including agronomic planning and spraying schedules.
In 2023, Chris Sharp was appointed Course Manager, with the consultancy continuing at Level 3, providing ongoing agronomic guidance. Throughout his time at Fulwell, Evans has worked closely with the club’s leadership, including General Manager Murray Cook and Course Director Allan Fraser.
Club Chairman Peter Hall said: “The club has seen quite an extraordinary advancement in its playing surfaces since Greg was approached. This has been driven by a number of factors, but I am in no doubt that his involvement has underpinned the dramatic and consistent improvements across all aspects of the course. The feedback from members and visitors has been phenomenal.
“As a club, I think it would be fair to say that we did not know how long the engagement would be for, but the key has actually been the creation of a long-term relationship. It has proven its value many times over by providing an over-arching stability for the club as the industry goes through some tumultuous times and developing cross-course knowledge transfer for both our greenkeeping and management team.”

Over the past decade, major course investments have included a full bunker and tee redesign, development of a borehole, large-scale fleet upgrades and multiple drainage projects. Future upgrades include a new irrigation system, transitioning from mains reliance to a sustainable water source, with a potential reservoir under consideration.
To combat the rise of dollar spot, the club has adopted a proactive, preventative agronomic approach, particularly on tees and approaches. Continued investment in turf management remains key to mitigating disease pressure and maintaining high playability standards.
Reflecting on the past ten years working with Fulwell, Greg Evans said: “It has been incredibly rewarding to contribute to Fulwell’s progress. The club’s commitment to sustainable course management and long-term development ensures continued improvements in its playing surfaces. I look forward to seeing its ongoing evolution in the years ahead.”
The PGA TOUR and Delta Air Lines have jointly announced a multi-year partnership that designates Delta as the Official Global Airline of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions.
The Confederation of Professional Golf has announced a new partnership with American clothing brand Turtleson.
Trinifold Sports Management has confirmed its commitment to women’s golf with the signing of three of Europe’s up and coming talents – Spain’s Carla Tejedo, Italy’s Anna Zanusso and the Isle of Man’s Ana Dawson.
GolfBusinessNews.com (GBN) is for the many thousands of people who work in the golf business all around the world.
We cover the full range of topics both on and off the course.
