Frederic Paul Norton
Frederic Paul Norton of Arkwright, New York, formerly of Kenmore, New York, known to friends as Nick, died March 18, 2025. He grew up in Kenmore and graduated from Kenmore Senior High School (now Kenmore West Senior High School) in 1953, Dartmouth College (Class of ’57), and Yale Law School.
He practiced law for fifty years in the law firm of Norton, Radin, Hoover, Freedman with offices in Kenmore and North Tonawanda. He was active in the Erie and New York State bar associations. He was a past president of the New York State School Attorney’s Association. He was also a past chairman of the Municipal Law section of the New York State Bar Association. He was a member of the Board and past Vice President of the Legal Services For the Elderly and Disabled. He was also a past chairperson of the Edward J. Meyer Hospital board.
His wife of fifty-four years, Alexandra Barnes predeceased him.
He is survived by his sons: Bryan (Hideko) of Tokyo, Japan and Gregory (Jill), of Buffalo, NY and daughter Kezia, of Los Angeles, CA. and granddaughters: Kiyana, Schyler, Sierra, Leah, and Ashley.
Nick was active in government being a trustee of the Village of Kenmore and Supervisor of the Town of Arkwright where he was instrumental in the installation of 36 wind mills. In 1969 he was a delegate to the New York State Constitutional Convention. He was also active in cultural activities being on the boards of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Albright~Knox Art Gallery, Theatre of Youth, and Studio Arena Theatre. A prominent collector of art, he donated his family’s collection of prints to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. He was active in Rotary International for fifty four years being president of the Kenmore and Fredonia Rotary Club, and server as District Governor of District 7090 in 1987-88 when women were first allowed in the Rotary district and was a Delegate to the International Assembly in 1990 when women were confirmed as members on an international basis. He led the first Rotary Foundation Group Study Exchange team to Soviet Georgia.
