France Budget Crisis:
Welcome to the Brussels Edition, Bloomberg’s daily briefing on what matters most in the heart of the European Union.
Emmanuel Macron is once again searching for a new prime minister after Michel Barnier’s government was ousted last week over a budget dispute. This time, he’s trying a new approach. The president will bring together leaders of a broad group of political parties for a meeting today to find common ground and coalesce around a potential program. Since the snap elections Macron called this summer, the lower house of parliament has been divided between three clashing blocs that have refused to unite to back a sustainable administration. Marine Le Pen, who leads the far-right National Rally and joined a left-wing coalition to oust Barnier in a no-confidence vote over his 2025 budget plans, won’t be joining. Her office told us her party wasn’t invited to today’s consultations.
